What it's really like...

We’re looking for people all the time that can tell us different ways of doing different things for our customers and we’re looking at everybody, any background, as long as you know how to relate to customers and you can deliver world class service. My name’s Andy White, I am currently Tesco Mobile Operations Manager here in Preston Brook and I’ve been here for nearly 15 years now. The O2/Tesco Mobile business relationship is Tesco Mobile are an Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) and we are based within our parent company, O2, who provide that service for Tesco Mobile. The exciting things that our area’s achieved over the past year, is that we’ve come number one in the Which? survey for customers as chosen network operator. We’ve also won the J.D Power awards as being chosen network operator, voted by customers and we’ve also achieved a Gold Level in Investors in People. Where I see the relationship in terms of Tesco Mobile and O2 over the next few years is that we will be working closer with O2 who are our parent company. We’re going to be looking for their inspirational ideas. We want to be able to share best practice with O2, bearing in mind they are one of our competitors but also, harnessing all the great things that they’re doing well and bringing that into Tesco Mobile but also sharing that with O2 as well.

What I like about my job within Tesco Mobile as Operations Manager, is just the day to day interaction with the people. Seeing how they interact with the customers, seeing what they’re doing well for the customers, rewarding, recognising people and just trying to transform them into being the best that they can be for the customer.

An example of a career path that you can follow within our business area is to join as an Advisor, be inducted as an Advisor, you work your way up towards one of the more support roles as Step-Up or Floor Walker, advance towards becoming a Team Manager. If you join as a Team Manager then there’s further opportunities to develop into project roles, Project Manager roles, Process Improvement roles or even head towards becoming an Ops Manager.

The key selling points coming into Tesco Mobile would be the environment. We have a philosophy, we like to treat each and every person as fairly and evenly as each other. You know we’re very supportive and we like to nurture and get the most out of our people from day one. For people who want to join us, it’s a great environment. We like to create a culture where everybody can speak their mind, where they can add something to the business and drive us forward.

The advice that I would give to anybody joining Tesco Mobile would be to look at what strengths you’ve actually got, you know what can you bring that’s new, different and exciting.
