Don’t just take our word as to how great working at O2 is...

What it's really like...

Jonny Kew

I decided to apply for an Internship at Telefónica following the presentation of the previous intern at my university. He told us all about the extra little things, on top of the actual job role, including hosting a box at the Emirates.

My name's Jonny Kew, I'm a Sponsorship Assistant. I've been here since the middle of July 2011. I decided to apply for an Internship at Telefónica following the presentation of the previous intern at my university. He told us all about the extra little things, on top of the actual job role, including hosting a box at the Emirates. Every week they had a game which sounded like an absolute dream.

The team I sit in is the Sponsorship Team and we work within the Brand Team. My role is to specifically look after the Arsenal and England Rugby Teams. To thrive in this environment at O2 you need to really get on with people, I'm still learning some names after my first few weeks of getting introduced to everybody. You need to work well in a team, also have the ability to get your head down at some points and just get on with your own work.

So the highlight of the internship so far, has got to be the ultimate match day experience where I was actually hosting it, but it was just a great experience. I got to go to the England versus Wales Rugby game, so we went and had a pre match tour around the stadium, got to see all the kits hanging up. I got a picture of Jonny Wilkinson's shirt and then we went to a pre match meal with all the RFU Council and then I got to watch the match with the competition winners and then go to an after match meal with the players. It was a pretty, pretty awesome day.

So in terms of this Internship helping me with my future career it will add so much to my CV, I was only one of two people that have taken a year out. So far I've met so many people from different agencies working in and around London and at O2 I've met so many people as well. I think it's really put my foot in the door for when I finish uni. What I really hope to learn from this internship is actual work experience in a massive business, especially when they've got sponsorship attributes such as England Rugby and Arsenal, it adds a lot to it because I'm interested in sport.

So when I finish the internship I'm looking to go back to University, complete my degree hopefully with a first and then go travelling for a year. And after that come back and get a job maybe at O2, let's see how the year goes.

I'd definitely promote doing an Internship at O2, the people here are great, they actually give you real work to do, rather than at some places you could get photocopying duty. But at O2 I've done a lot of real work and although it's been hard, we play hard as well.
