Devices

In Devices we have the job of bringing new products and experiences to our customers. We do this by selecting the very best range of handsets, finding useful applications for mobiles, developing new “connected” devices like laptops and pioneering completely new innovative products like the O2 Joggler.

Our passion is to make these “connected” experiences the very best for our customers, and the most efficient and productive for our business. Our team is split into five core areas.

1. Connected Solutions

As the title implies, this team is not just about delivering devices but about making sure that the end-to-end solution delivers the very best experience for our customers. The focus steers away from just traditional handsets and concentrates on the growing area of convergence and the ever developing world of the connected home and mobile market.

2. Device customer experience

This team delivers all projects and programmes within the greater Devices team, from selection through to in life. We're responsible for ensuring that all devices (e.g. handsets, laptops, routers, etc), work properly when they're launched, ensuring they deliver the best experience for our customers.  We also own the technical relationships with the hardware manufacturers and fix in life device issues.

3. Devices Demand

We are a team with a broad range of responsibilities. This includes influencing the industry (on behalf of Telefónica), holding key positions in various industry bodies such as The Global Certification Forum and GSMA.

The team is also responsible for producing policies, interfacing globally with vendors at a technical level and for the overall strategy of devices. We work with colleagues from across the Telefónica Group in the Telefónica Device Design Council (TDDC) on areas such as device operating system strategy and sustainability. We also provide technical expertise and resource to cross-company projects.

4 Vendor Management, Portfolio and Services & Applications

The team covers three key areas; Vendor Management, Portfolio and Device Services & Applications. Vendor Management have dual O2 UK and TEF Europe responsibility for managing all the major device vendors, defining and implementing strategy and maximising the value back from our vendors. The Portfolio team are responsible for selection and in life management of consumer and business devices and accessories.

The Device Services & Applications team are responsible for negotiating revenue share deals with device vendors and third parties for application stores and other services. They ensure O2's services strategy is implemented on devices and they are also responsible for day to day product management and development of the Blackberry service.  Our relationships are widespread reaching across and beyond the business

5. Wholesale

Our role is to generate incremental revenue and EBITDA for O2 by working with Tesco Mobile, giffgaff and other (future) MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) partners which complement our business.
