Our Solutions Architects find out what our customers want and design a solution that fits with their ICT architecture and strategy. In essence, they turn business needs into high-level solution design. Based in the office, you’ll be responsible for supporting SA work for small to medium-sized UK projects and designing and owning the commercial elements. For example, you might need to manage the relationship with the other parties; you may be asked to provide Sales and Solutions Architects with, say, product or technical research.
In fact, your range of projects could include:
WAN design
Routing & Switching
IP telephony solutions for small/medium requirements
General Solution Design support for existing managed service customers
We’re looking for someone with at least two years’ experience in telecommunications solution design, preferably WAN, IP Telephony and network security.
You’ll have:
around six to twelve months’ commercial experience (either within pre- or post sales engineering)
an understanding of engineering design and sales principles confidence talking to customers Cisco CCNA, CCDA (or equivalent)
There’s plenty in return of course. A competitive salary and benefits that you get to choose. Not to mention lots of support, recognition and the chance to progress
Much of your role will be about translation. You’ll find out what our customers want and design a solution that fits with their ICT architecture and strategy. In essence, you’ll turn business needs into high-level solution design. Although you certainly have a gift for all things technical, you’re also very personable. Importantly, you can work closely with our account teams, the wider O2 crew and, most certainly, the customer, to define project needs. You’re then happy to take responsibility for the entire technical solution, making the most of all our ‘Unify’ technology areas to create robust, fit-for-purpose systems.
With at least five years’ experience in IP networking and a customer-facing pre-Sales engineering role, you understand engineering, network design and sales principles inside out. You can translate customer needs into strategic proposals and deal with senior management (including the Board). Your technical knowledge covers the Cisco portfolio and at least two of the following:
WAN design (architectures, CPE and Carrier Services)
Routing & Switching (LAN, WAN, WiFi – technologies and products)
Infrastructure hosting and cloud services
TDM-based voice equipment and carrier switched services, SIP Trunking
IP Telephony and Unified Communication Solutions
Contact Centre solution design
Security solutions
Managed Service solutions
Added to that, we’ll be looking for a good grasp of ITIL Service Management, compliancy, ISO accreditations, governance and government IT strategies (PSN).
There’s plenty in return of course. A competitive salary and benefits that you get to choose. Not to mention lots of support, recognition and the chance to progress.
You’ll be a key link between us and 2e2, supporting the onboarding of all services into 2e2 as part of the O2 Unify portfolio. By working closely with a range of contacts within both businesses, you’ll see that all 2e2 services are delivered on time, on budget and to agreed standards. You’ll also establish low-level requirements for new services for the end customer and help to deliver these services. The key is to develop our approaches and processes so that all transitions go smoothly. It’s a critical, O2-facing role where you’ll need to manage a wide range of people and resources, from offshore service support teams, to the 2e2 operations group.
You’ll be an expert in operational management with a variety of experience covering business-critical services and systems, particularly the transition of services. You’re also the sort of person who makes things happen – ITIL aware and able to communicate at all levels to get the job done. What’s more, you can draw on knowledge of the IT lifecycle from design to delivery to operations, plus an in-depth understanding of managed services: networking, telecoms and fixed solutions (via service providers). Crucially, you’ll have managed the onboarding of customers in a complex technology and service environment before.
This is not a technical architecture role. However, you must have a good grasp of how technology, products and solutions work together in order to propose the optimum result. Your knowledge should cover best practice Communications (Fixed and Mobile) and IT service offerings; competitive outsourcing and managed service offerings; and general commercial concepts such as fte modelling and cost analysis. You’ll have gained your expertise working on multiple bids for tier 1 or 2 suppliers within the industry. You’ll have designed solutions ranging from Break-fix and Desk-side, to Remote Monitoring and Management – so you’ll be capable of dissecting RFP/RFQ/EFIs and adapting customer requirements to the services offered.
Strong communication skills will be crucial. You must be capable of inspiring and developing virtual teams, influencing at the highest levels across Telefónica and customer businesses; and working closely with all O2 Unify teams. Please note that this role involves some travel.
