Careers Site Updates - part 2

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

5:00am. Dark and cold out. Bed warm. In fact dark, cold and foggy.

Despite this I leap from my bed and into the shower (not quite, it is a good 3 meters away, but you get the gist), and away I go to the office.

Why such an early start I hear you ask? Why the uncharacteristic spring in my step? Well, if you remember in my last post I was doing loads of filming for the careers site and on the day in question I had gotten to the end of our arduous filming schedule!!! (I am sure Lucas would say filming in Tunisia for Star Wars was harder, Spielberg had a nightmare on Jaws, Abyss was filmed almost entirely underwater, but I still think 5:00am is pretty tough!)

And now, after weeks of editing, tweaks, new copy being written, new areas being added, we have our great new content for the Careers site.

So, if you are interested in HR check out the great video from our HR Director Ann Pickering and one of our Sponsored Olympic Athletes, Hanna Lawrence .

Or if Finance is more your bag we have a video from our CFO Adam Castleton where he discusses the Finance and Professional Services directorate. And from the legal team, Nathaniel Reilly O’Donnell talks about working at O2 and balancing that with his preparations for the 2012 London Games.

Also we have a great interview with James Le Brocq as he talks about our exciting O2 Money business.

Interested in Consumer & Marketing, Sally Cowdry spared us some time for a chat and Feilim Mackle, the new Director of Sales & Service gave us some time to tell us about himself and his directorate.

So, lots of videos for you to check out, and we will have more coming from Operations and Retail in the coming weeks, I’ll keep you informed when they are up, hope you like them!!!

Why is it not getting colder?

At O2 it is so easy to feel comfortable at work, I’m not just talking about the comfy chairs but the people and the dress code. You never would have thought what you wear would have such an impact on how productive you are. Especially working in sponsorship one key ingredient is creativity. This is strangely made easier through wearing clothes you feel happy in. You wouldn’t be out of place in a shirt or polo and jeans. Wonderful! But this weather is certainly not making choice of attire any easier- that time of year when it looks perfectly fine and you get outside to find its freezing!

Obviously I don’t have vast experience of working in various offices but from the few work placements I have done I can safely say O2 have got it right. Some might say the location isn’t the greatest, but once you see the office and step inside you totally forget where you are. It’s all those quirky little touches that actually make you want to get up and come to work. From cardboard cut outs of squirrels to meeting rooms with individual themes like Rugby or the O2 Academies.  This is what makes working at O2 on Bath Road one of the easiest and best places to stay from 9-5.

Although I say 9-5, I have slowly started realising that you often find yourself staying till much later. At first glance this may seem terrible but I found myself at the office till 8:15pm last night and was perfectly fine with it.

As I have said before the mindset here is very much; work hard, play hard.

What has Jonny been up to?

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks!!! Just finished wrapping up the “Get Up For England” campaign and it has been . . . emotional!

This past week it’s been less of the overly exciting stuff and more head down and work. I thought the time would never come but to compensate for being so busy a while back I overloaded on cool things - twice out of the three times I have been to The O2 when we have had a professional sports star guest going to a gig. Can’t say who I took to the last gig I went to (which was to see Katy Perry - for whom I have now taken a massive liking too) but it is great fun!

Anyway, it’s quite hard not to talk too much about the social side, so I hereby present a short splurge on my the day to day stuff recently:

With wrapping up our RWC campaign and Christmas drawing closer everyone is starting to focus on finance. I have spent a lot of time trying to fully get to grips with the financial systems and budgeting. I actually feel a lot more confident with it all, especially now I know the people at O2 who can help out whenever I have a problem.

Other than rugby budgeting I have become heavily involved in looking at the year ahead and what activity we can do or amend at Arsenal in the winter months, so looking forward to some exciting stuff with that.

So, there it is, my last couple of weeks in a nutshell, speak to you soon, Jonny :)
