1880 winner

Being one of the 1880 winners is fantastic. It awards people across the business for outstanding service for O2 showing that we go the extra mile for our customers and turn them into fans.I won the award for helping a visually impaired customer who wanted to return his handset as it didn’t suite his needs. The customer was housebound and unable to return his phone by the usual means. I helped him by speaking to a courier and arranging for the handsets to be collected and returned to the correct department. I gave the customer a call after this was done to make sure he is happy with the service and if I could help him with anything else. He expressed that he would love to get a new handset but fears by doing this it would cause problems. He requires touch&talk software due to his disability which is not usually a feature on the majority of handsets. I went through all the options with him and after choosing a handset for him I then got the software he needed added to the handset. The Customer received the handset but struggled to get to grips with the menus and features of his new device. I then went to his house, showed him how to use the phone along with great tips. I also explained to him that I noticed he was paying for numbers which would be free by taking out or O2 home phone. He switched his home phone account to O2 and can now call numbers regularly free of charge.
After this I was nominated for the 1880 award by my line manager. A week later I was chosen as an 1880 winner. I got a cake and £1880 of holiday vouchers! I was also recognised across the business and received congratulations across the business from people I have never met before who just wanted to say well done. Even Ronan left me a message “Gareth showed great dedication and real understanding of his customer’s needs here.  By sticking with the situation and rising to every challenge along the way, Gareth helped this customer to achieve something which many of us take for granted – a phone that simply works for him. Brilliant work, thank you.” What more can you ask for!
So what am I doing with the vouchers I hear you ask? Well my girlfriend and I are going to go to Las Vegas! I can’t wait.

Resourcing Team Community Day Tuesday 19th April 2011

The O2 Resourcing team wanted to do a team building exercise that also involved giving something back to the community.
The project we did was “Friends of Middleton Park” through Green Space. Middleton Park in Leeds is not as well known as places like Roundhay Park and Temple Newsam, but it does have some beautiful woodland area which is one of the oldest forests in Yorkshire.
Green space environmental group is currently trying to get companies and local people involved in working on the area to encourage more visitors to the 630 acre park.
On the day the team were very enthusiastic and tackled some really big jobs in the park, one of which was scrapping paint from a large metal car park barrier, cleaning it and then giving the barrier a fresh coat of paint. The rangers were really impressed as not only did the barrier get completed but the gate and gate posts were also finished by 3.30pm.
In addition the Park has a Crown Green Bowling area which they hope to use for the National Championship competition next year. Some of the guys tackled the digging to create new areas for flower beds to be placed and also removed weeds from around the edge of the Bowling Green to tidy this area up. The team made a fantastic contribution to this area and all in all we saved the 3 Rangers based at the Park 30 days of full hard labour.
The team pulled together and made a massive contribution and supported each other throughout the day, which was fantastic as we all are not based at one site so it’s very rare we all get together in one place. This gave people in all areas time to work with people in the team who they don’t generally work with, which increases team productivity.
A good day was had by all and lots of good feedback has been received about how proud they all were of what one team can achieve together in such a short space of time.

New at O2

I’ve been at O2 for 5 months now, starting my training in September. After a string of part-time University call centre jobs I knew what to expect when I arrived for my interview.There were some similarities -my nervousness, their questions on experience and expectations - but aside from that applying at O2 was a completely different.

 The interview gave you more opportunity to ask questions about the business and covered your likes, strengths and interests and I left feeling excited and enthusiastic about the possibility of working for O2. 

The best part of working here so far has definitely been the team I work with. I was lucky to go onto the floor with my training group, meaning that for the first few shaky calls we had the support of people we knew and trusted. We’ve grown to be really close and it’s nice that do we get the opportunity in team meeting to spend more time socialising.

 Having a team that gets on so well makes coming into work that much more enjoyable and means we always have someone to ask for support.  While I haven’t been in my role for very long I’ve already had more opportunity to get involved in projects and take on other responsibilities than I’ve had in previous any role. I like that O2 offers the chance to gain more skills in my current role but also that we’re really encouraged to get involved in the Big Project. It helps out in the local community where I live and the variety of things you have the chance take part in is why I enjoy coming into work.
