Comic Relief

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

When we received the email asking for volunteers to support Comic Relief we jumped at the chance, support was needed in our Bury and Glasgow contact centres so as a team we decided that we would support both sites, myself and Suzanne in Bury and Louisa and Lyndsey in Glasgow. As the day grew nearer we started to received countdown emails which told us what would be going on in each site and the different systems we would be using – as the night grew closer it was getting quite exciting. When we first arrived we were excited about taking calls and helping such a fantastic cause but also a bit nervous, once we got sat at our stations and met the people around us we realised that everyone felt the same. The contact centres were both brightly decorated, Bury with red balloons and Red Nose day banners and Glasgow in the theme of a carnival, people in both sites were dressed up, from a ring master with his fake moustache to Austin Powers with false teeth and Platform leopard print shoes – it was great fun! There were also lots of people supporting us too, making sure that we had drinks, also bringing us slices of pizza – we were really well looked after! As the calls started to come through you could see how affected everyone was by Comic Relief and what they were watching on TV, people were so generous giving whatever they could afford from a few pounds to thousands. Whilst we were working some of the highest donations were £1100 in Glasgow and £2000 in Bury. Suzanne also took a call from a young boy who just wanted to tell everyone on TV they were going a great job – how sweet! The more calls we took the less nervous we became.

Although we knew we were there to do a job and a very important job too, O2 made sure we had fun, there were raffles with some great prizes to be won, Magicians performing tricks and making balloon hats but I think one thing that we will all take away with us is the sense of pride that everyone chipped in to help such a good cause.

Thinking of becoming a O2 Guru?

Friday, March 25th, 2011

You may have noticed we are currently recruiting for O2 Gurus again in our stores. It’s a great role, one which allows you time to keep up to date and play with new technology. Even better – you get the chance to then show it to customers and teach your team mates all about it.

We are asked a lot about the interview process and what people need to know; so I thought it may be useful to let you know what happens.

When you apply for the role make sure you click on the Guru advert in our retail homepage. We have a really useful portal there which takes you into the World of O2 Guru. There are a few scenarios there to make sure that the role is right for you.

Following this you then fill out your application online and attach your CV. The next stage is a telephone interview and a technical test which only takes 30 minutes. The test is only 8 questions long and is based on the sort of things that our Gurus come up against every day. The telephone interview is designed to find out a little more about you and how you like to work.

If you are successful then you will be invited to meet our managers bringing along a presentation on something technical that inspires you. You get a full brief beforehand though. This runs into an interview – again only about an hour.

Top tips

  • Make sure you attach your CV with your application.
  • Choose a quiet place for your telephone interview and test. You don’t want any distractions.
  • Bring along a presentation on something that interests you – it will be much more comfortable talking about something that you are passionate about.
  • Most people are nervous during interviews, just be yourself – we want to meet the real you, that’s why you’ve been invited along

Good Luck

My Application to O2

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

The interview process was quite informative and straight forward, maybe its because I have previous call centre experience and found it quite simple.

To start off with I was given a phone interview after an initial email asking me to book an appointment which I did so. I was advised I was successfull immediately and was also given feedback on how I could have improved my answers (which helped me with the interview to come).

I was then invited to attend a formal interview which was just that. I was quite nervous (as you are at an interview), but the staff made me feel very comfortable. The initial interview was quite simple as I was already used to acheving quality targets at work so knew exactly what was expected of the call from a quality point of view. The second part was the longer of the interview which did require some more in depth answers as it was a lot more competency based and experience based, but I was still at ease as my experience did give me alot of confidence to answer the questions.

Overall the interview did not seem too long and I also had a tour of the building which was impressive and seemed very relaxed for a call centre compared to where I work (what do you expect at a sales environment). Did get a good idea of what the job details where and what were expected of me as an agent and was very happy with taking the job if offered. I have just started my new position at O2 in Bury.
