Healthy Stuff

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Before I start my blog, I make a cup of coffee and switch on the radio – I like a little background noise when I’m working. I can hear the usual ramblings of a travel update… an accident on the M3 (my route to the O2 offices), 2 lanes closed north-bound, delays up to an hour… it’s just another reason I’m glad to be a home worker! I smile to myself and switch off the radio. Who needs that first thing on a Monday morning?!
I drink my coffee. I’m trying to decide what I’d like to share about life at O2, what would be interesting, helpful…?  I think back to when I first started working here and I’m actually startled to realise I’ve been with O2 for 6 years now! Where did the time go?
I started contracting at O2 in 2004, my role was to design and implement a health and wellbeing campaign that would run across the UK over a 4 month period. I introduced activities like mobile masseurs (who massage people at their desks), weight loss classes, yoga sessions and stress awareness workshops.  High participation levels and overwhelming feedback made it clear early on that health and wellbeing was more important to O2 people than we had initially anticipated.
Fast forward to 2010 and my lowly role has evolved into a small but mighty team, powering a whole raft of health and wellbeing services that range from confidential counselling to private medical insurance. Listening to what our people have to say about their day to day experience at O2 and how it impacts their wellbeing is an integral part of my role.¼br> I think the biggest satisfaction for me has come from taking that insight and turning it into meaningful initiatives that our people truly value.  Now, no matter where I work I’m never more than a click away from our health and wellbeing website or from taking a health assessment and receiving my own personalised report… mind you, I’m running out of excuses not to stick to my New Year resolutions!

Then Ask Matt

So you’ve seen a job on the O2 Careers site and you’re tempted to apply but you have a burning question about O2 as an employer.  Well look no further…  If you’ve not found the answer you’re looking for on our careers site, reply to this blog and I’ll try and find the answer for you.  I’ve worked for O2 for 6 years and worked in Technology, Customer Service and HR so if I can’t answer your question, I’m sure I’ll find someone who can!

Please note I can only help with generic questions around O2.  If you need help with your account or bill, you’ll need to speak to your Customer Service Team.

A job for life, not just Christmas!

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I started with the O2 back in 1998, when it was BT. I thought I would stay until after Christmas, however I quickly realised that this was the type of company I had always wanted to be part of.

I started as a part time Sales Advisor and worked my way up to Assistant Branch manager and then to Branch Manager, this has been achieved due to the ongoing training and development opportunities which have been given throughout this time.

One thing which I love is the way that the company will listen to feedback from all levels and will always welcome ideas which people give. O2 are very passionate about their people and reward and recondition is a high priority. It is all about team work and its the best team to be part of.
