Life as a Guru

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Today has been great. I have met some really nice customers today. I had 2 appointments, the first was an update of samsungs PC software and then I helped a customer connect his handset with his in-built carkit. This meant going to his car to solve the issue.
I have also been busy making a crossword puzzle which I did by using a program on the internet. The crossword was based on Home Broadband. This was made for the staff to help make it more fun and encourage them to learn.

I’ve also been reading up on new technology regarding the possibility of faster download speeds via Mobile Broadband and the new Nexus One handset as I will be having to help input the O2 settings onto the device so customers can use the functions of the internet.
Today I have also had a new tool installed to help me with repairing customers faulty handsets. The Guru Bar has another laptop which we can use to update device firmware to avoid having to send the handset away if the handset has a software fault. This would really help bring a better experience for the customer.
So if your interested in becoming a Guru and you believe you have the knowledge and the leadership skills then why not apply?

The sound of music

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

It’s not often the company you work for is into similar things to you. At O2 it’s a little different. The company is very keen on music sponsorship and for anyone who’s into music, like me, this has benefits.O2 famously sponsor the former Millennium Dome, The O2, which houses the world’s busiest arena. They also sponsor eleven of what are now known as the O2 Academies including O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the O2 Academy Brixton. The more eagle eyed gig goers in Manchester may have spotted that O2 also have a box in the MEN Arena.

As an O2 customer, and an employee with an O2 phone, you can register yourself for priority tickets at both The O2 and the Academy venues up to 48 hours before general release. There’s a whole host of other stuff too.

There are also reward schemes for outstanding work and competitions where you can find yourself with free tickets. I was asked if I wanted to go and spend an evening in the O2 box at the MEN, with free food and drinks. Thanks very much O2, I’ll go and see the Smashing Pumpkins! What a great night that was.As a keen musician I occasionally need some time out to take my music to the masses. We have a scheme at work that lets you buy annual leave if you need a little more, or sell it if you never seem to use it all. I have a small number of days that are added to my allowance for the year. Thanks to that I was able to be a rock star for two weeks in December – I played a two week tour, including nine of the O2 Academy venues, and rocked the socks off almost 10,000 people.

I appear to have come full circle, from a music fan to a budding rock star, and now I have my own fans. Thanks to O2 for being a great company to work for!

O2 exceeded my expectations!!

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

O2 has far exceeded the expectations I had when I joined over 9 years ago,

O2 was a complete career change for me and I was embraced into the family. Across the departments I have regular contact with I see a very strong work ethic that’s committed to delivering the very best for our customers. From management I see a culture of recognition, where hard work is valued and strong investments are made in people.

For example when we struggled to get into work because of the snow we were given warm drinks, pizza and entered into a draw for an IPhone as a thank you for the effort. This is just one of the many ways we are thanked for the hard work we do. We have access to tickets for the O2, the corporate box at MEN Manchester and have a festive party every Christmas. O2 is a complex, global business and I believe that they value their employees as their most important asset.

I have been constantly challenged since joining O2 whilst simultaneously gaining personal development through a range of opportunities. I enjoy working in a happy, stable environment with diverse people and have made good friends along the way.  I would describe the culture here as collaborative and I value the feeling that I belong to a huge friendly hardworking family.

I’m proud to work for O2 and think that we offer great career opportunities. If your looking to work for O2 I would highly recommend the company but please do not be mistaken that this an easy job. It is hard and the environment is constantly changing so you need to change with it. The plus side is we are rewarded well and respected for the work we do, this is reflected in the excellent pay package, perks and reward schemes.
