O2 is the place to be for development

I joined O2 or BT Cellnet as it was then in January 1998. I moved over from BT as I felt my role was becoming stale and I needed new challenges. From that day I have never looked back, as I have had many challenges presented to me in the various different areas of O2 where I have worked helping me to develop my knowledge.

I began working in our Pay Monthly department just as it was being launched and what a challenge that was, as most of the people working in there were all fairly new to this service or had moved from other areas of the business. Pay Monthly grew so quickly the department had to move to another part of the country after 12 months to accommodate the resource required to service our ever growing customer base. I then moved into our department that serviced our Retail network and I was there for another 12 months. I was then given an opportunity to move into our Consumer department where I was given the chance to be involved in new initiatives the business was introducing to enhance the service we provide to our customers. This was a really exiting time for me as it presented me with new development opportunities.

Things became quieter in our Consumer team and I was offered an opportunity to move into our Corporate team where we provide service to high paying customers. This was another exciting move as Corporate customers expect the highest of customer service and I had to make sure my team were fully up to speed with processes and products to be able to provide an outstanding service.

While in Corporate I attended an interviewing course and was then responsible for recruiting people into the department. I really enjoyed this and it gave me a sense of achievement, so when a further opportunity came along for someone to manage a new HR Recruitment team that was being introduced I applied straight away and was over the moon when I was successful at interview. Since then my development has gone from strength to strength as I have been involved in so many different initiatives with HR and Recruitment. I am currently working on our new recruitment online tool which proves to be another challenge for me and gives further personal development and opportunities.

So you can see things don’t stand still here at O2 and if you want to stretch yourself and get involved this is the place to be. If you like the fast pace, strive for opportunity, personal development and a challenging environment then O2 is clearly the place to be, after all ‘we’re better, connected’.
