My Journey…

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I’d like to share with you a bit about my journey through O2 so far, and how, as an employer, the opportunities and support available have been invaluable!

I joined O2 in 1998 (we were actually BT Mobile in those days) as a Customer Service Advisor in Business.  In 2000 I successfully applied for a new role as a Corporate Customer Service Advocate, and become the point of contact for some of our largest corporate customers.  After working in this role for 4 years I was requested to assist with a new project, together with a senior manager, which involved creating an electronic database for the corporate customers’ profiles in order to move away from the paper-based information.  Working on this project for a number of months enabled me to build a strong working relationship with the senior manager which resulted in me becoming her administrative assistant.  1 year into this role in 2006 I applied for the post of Leadership Development Assistant within Learning & Development - this provided great opportunities for me and I was heavily involved with the Trainee Manager Programme, which, in turn, provided me with recruitment experience.

In October 2008 I was successful in obtaining the seconded position of Recruitment Advisor for Preston Brook and Bury.

Progression through each of my roles, over the 10 year period, has allowed me the appropriate development opportunities to comfortably achieve all set goals/targets.

Management support, online courses and workshops are all available to help you when and where required.  As mentioned at the beginning, these have been invaluable and have all contributed to journey within O2 so far!

Could you be an O2 Guru?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

HelloWell, it’s certainly an exciting time at O2 just now, for the first time in our company’s history we have developed a new position in our retail stores.

You may have seen it advertised - an O2 Guru, this is a more technical role than we have ever had before and also a great opportunity for someone to help teach their team in all the new and exciting products as they hit our stores.

You will find out about the role in our careers homepage and also the remaining locations still recruiting.

If you have an interview coming up or you want to find out more then we will try and answer your questions or if there is nothing in your area just now - why not register in the prospect pool, you never know what’s around the corner

It’s the People I work with…

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I’ve been with O2 for 3 years.  I was extremely worried about the technology side as I previously sold shoes!  However, I had nothing to worry about, the other Managers in my area were more than friendly, I was told each Manager’s strengths and was encouraged to call them if I needed any help. Since starting as a Branch Manager in 2005 I have worked my way up in our Area.  I started off with a very small branch at first and found that my strength lay in audit procedures.  I was given the opportunity to become the Area Audit Rep also so took this role on.  I was given the freedom to plan and undertake the project as I wanted and gave regular updates to my line manager.  The work I did improved our Area to 1st in the Audit League Table within our Region.I was then given a larger Branch 18 months ago and have found new challenges along the way.  In February this year I was promoted to Senior Branch Manager and have been involved in more new projects.

Working for O2 is like no other job I’ve had, no 2 days are the same, the good days definitely outweigh the hectic ones.  If I had to choose my favourite thing about O2 it would have to be the people I work with.  Whatever the problem there is always someone to help and they are eager to do it.  O2 is a not just a job, it’s a career path.
