Applying for a job by email – something to think about……

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

So many things are done via the internet and email these days - booking a holiday, requesting information, submitting college assignments and, of course, applying for a job.  So much time goes into creating a good CV, writing a great cover letter and finding the right job to apply for. Everyone wants to create a great first impression with their prospective employer and your first chance to do this is often when you press the send button on that application email.

When your email arrives in your prospective employer’s inbox, it’s important to remember that the first impression you create may just be your email address!  So - next time you send a job application by email, think about your email address and ask yourself if the person you have sent the email to will find your email address as funny as your friends do?  If you have an inkling that it may not paint you in the most favourable light my advice would be to save that one for your mates and spend five minutes setting up a new email account to use for the ‘serious stuff’.

Those five minutes will be well worth it when you have the job of your dreams…….

What a fantastic experience

I have been working at O2 for nearly 3 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed moment of it!!

O2 looks after its people - I have never worked for a company who has supported me so much and who also reconises me for my talents and successes!! Reward and recognition play a huge part in the culture of O2 and it also listens to the people who work there and acts on feedback that is given!!

I feel proud to work for O2 and would recommend it to anyone - both working for O2 and being an O2 customer! Its been a fantastic experience so far and I know that the years to come will offer the same!!!

A truly awesome experience

I started work at the O2 Store in Pontefract in April 2005 as Assistant Branch Manager.  The store was brand new, as were all of the team from the Manager down to the 16 hour part time sales advisors.  The training we received before the store opened was, in a word, “FANTASTIC”, considering none of the team had ever worked in the mobile phone industry before, when our doors finally opened we were more than ready to greet our first customers armed with all the knowledge we needed.

The store management team all progressed within 12 months of the Pontefract store opening with myself being promoted to Branch Manager as our current Manager moved to a much busier store in Leeds.

In May 2007 O2 become the proud sponsors of what used to be the millennium dome and it became The O2 Arena.  And boy did they celebrate it’s opening in style! O2 closed nearly all of its Retail Stores on a Saturday and EVERY (yes every!!) member of O2 staff in the country plus a guest were invited to a special premiere concert featuring Tom Jones, The Kaiser Chiefs and Basement Jaxx on the music front while Peter Kay gave us all a good laugh in-between Dermot O’Leary hosting proceedings. We were all put up in hotels in London and had all of our travel taken care of by O2. What an experience, it was truly awesome!

But the icing on my O2 career cake came in May 2008 when, after being chuffed to bits at just being nominated to represent O2 in the mobile industries best sales person of the year competition “Shop Idol”, I went through to the final and was in the last six nominees.  Alas I didn’t win but my wife and me were both invited to the mobile industry awards (a bit like the Brit Awards but for mobile phones) and had an all expense paid overnight stay in London. Another truly awesome experience!!

So, yes, I would definitely recommend O2 as a great place to work as would all of my team I’m sure.  I know it’s a little cheesy but O2 definitely live the old motto “work hard, play hard”.
